Mind Reflection, 2008
Mosquito net, butterflies, video
Size: Approx. 5 x 5 m
The Work: Inspired by his experience of visiting a temple in the Thai province of Lopburi called Wat Phra Bat Nam Phu, where Aids sufferers go to live the last moments of their lives, Yamazaki provocatively addresses the image of death. An installation of live and dying butterflies presents a lyrical and ultimately respectful meditation on passing lives.
