Born 1970 (Thailand) / Works in Thailand

An MA graduate from San Francisco, Changtrakul works with many different themes and media. He has recreated markets in galleries, turned an art centre into a recreational ‘gym’ and produced drawings of a highly fantastical nature. In 2006 Changtrakul was commissioned by ArtAids to work with HIV-infected teenager Bua on an animation of her paintings, which was screened at that year's international conference on HIV organised by HIV-NAT in Bangkok.

The Work: From a field trip to Wat Phra Bat Nam Phu, a place of the Aids patient in Lopburi, Thailand, Changtrakul had been inspired by and idea of clich? in HIV/Aids in general context. He came up with an acutely humorous work, Changtrakul compels the audience to erase a negative image of HIV and Aids. Once erased, a new attitude will hopefully emerge.
